HAPPY ANNIVERSARY LIVEJOURNAL
I just realized that this month marks the one-year anniversary of this blog.

Wow. And to think I was worried I'd have nothing to say. Apparently, it hasn't stopped me one bit.

I'm wrapping up the first phase of the work project that has monopolized my time the last few weeks. I'll try to come up with a fitting blog entry soon to mark this occasion.

If you've checked in for a writing update, here it is:  I received a rejection this week that reinforces the very real possibility that I won't be selling to Harlequin and Silhouette any more. I'm trying, they're trying, but with Bombshell gone, I'm just not a very good fit for them. And vice versa.

Oh well. No big surprise, really. H/S is the heart of romance, and I've always been on the fringe of that genre. I instinctively gravitate more toward the "romance as a subplot" approach, not only in my writing, but also in my reading and viewing habits. give me a strong nonromance plot and a love story brewing in the background and I'm a happy writer/reader/viewer. Hit me over the head with the romance -- or worse, ask me to do the hitting -- and I lose my voice. Literally and literarily.

We'll see. Maybe H/S will come up with another cross-genre line that works for me better.

Meanwhile, I can't afford to obsess. I have my annual battle with the Bunny Cake coming up soon, and i have to prepare myself mentally for the battle. This year, I will prevail. I even bought a candy thermometer, so I don't have to deal with that ridiculous "spiderweb string" curse that has foiled my attempt at making boiled frosting on the first try every year.

Blog to you later. I'm cooking up a new contest -- no bun intended -- and it should be a good one (and by good, I mean evil). So stay tuned. And congrats again to the winners of my last contest -- your books are in the mail!

Kate

As the Self-Appointed President and Mascot of the Kate Donovan Fan Club, it is my duty to remind you that (a) you are the wonderfulest, kickassingest, awesomest writer in the history of writerdom and you must never forget that, and (b) you must keep writing. Must. If only to appease the fans of yours addicted to your writing and need their regular Kate fix and are now assuaging the addiction by re-reading EXIT STRATEGY for the 9th time and ID CRISIS for the 12th.

Since my surgery I have been reading a lovely trilogy that is based around the terribly romantic situations that befall people that have been introduced through a matchmaker. Wanna guess the author? Hmmm what was that you said about romance being the subplot? Cause I am still smiling thinking of a certain Lieutenant...

Hey! I hope this means you're feeling better, Charity.

Yes, Lieutenant Zack Dane -- what a guy. And in those books, the romance wasn't just the subplot, it was everything -- I hope.

I'm glad you enjoyed the books. Feel better!

Yes I am finally starting to feel much better thank you. I have thought about posting to my blog but haven't taken the time. Still a little sore, but am dealing. I can actually speak now without sounding funky. There were a couple of times people thought I was deaf...I really couldn't talk very well.

On a nicer note I lost about 18 lbs the first 10 days after the surgery!

and the Bunny Cake. Yummmm . . . I should make my mom make that frosting. She used to, when we were little.

As for the writing . . . please keep writing. Just so I can imagine that the SPIN team lives on. What does your agent say about where you might fit?

Thanks, Penni. And don't worry -- I'll keep writing. Just not for H/S. I write all the time, and these days, I'm loving my new time travel and YA so those are hot prospects. Just need to find the right pub.

My mom never made bunny cake, my husband's did. i'm trying to keep the tradition alive but the bunny fights me all the way.

Thanks again!
