Romance Writers of America conference
No RWA for me this year. I hope everyone who went is having a great time, and everyone who stayed home is glad s/he did.

It would have been a huge waste of money for me this year, because I’m so immersed in, and loving, my latest project that I would have just stayed in my hotel room the whole time, scribbling scenes on hotel stationary and ordering room service. Of course, I would have enjoyed seeing some friends – and some family in Dallas too – and listening to some publishing folks, but this is such a busy time of year in my day job, I would have had to keep an eye on it over the internet, and possibly attend a meeting by phone, and so it would have been zoo-ish for me and those around me.

But in honor of RWA, I’m taking a few days off to write. I’m tempted to change the bed linens every day and order food delivered for dinner every night, since those would have been two of my favorite parts anyway.

Next year: San Francisco! I will be there. It’s close enough to my home that I could drive there for a few days even if I have meetings in Sacramento that week as well. Plus, any excuse to go to San Francisco in the summer, when Sacramento is blazing, and the city is lovely.

Every RT convention I end up spending at least 12 hours of it or more "at the office" online working. Nature of the working world these days.

Cool that you stayed home. Now we can talk about everyone while they are gone ;-)

Writer Kate is so different from Attorney Kate, it's a little like that Seinfeld episode where George's worlds were colliding. And meanwhile, Vacation Kate is a little different too, so when you get all three of us in the same room together -- well, therein lies the zoo I referred to.

Do you remember that I first met you at RT Reno? Lots of fun, despite the smoke-filled casino and the cover models who were almost TOO accessible.

I have the pictures AND the signed copies of your books. RT is fun. So nice to be with a bunch of people who are all about romance novels regardless of how that novel makes it to the reader's eyeballs.

I know hot is all relative. To me Sacramento gets hot. Tuscon gets HOT. I'll take Sacramento hot over Tuscon hot anytime.

And... Is there an online excerpt for your newest book, 'Charade?'

Hi Sheila! Tuscon does sound a little warm -- ouch. But I'd still like to go there someday, preferably in the autumn. I've loved every trip we've made to Arizona so far. Sedona, the Monument Valley area, Flagstaff -- all great trips.

Meanwhile, I keep meaning to do that excerpt! What would you like to see? The opening scene? Or the first romantic scene? Or something angsty? Funny? Action-y? Since you brought it up, I'll let you decide.

Of all the people I know who visit my blog, you're the one I most want to tell about my new project. Given some of your posts on your blog, I think you'll like it. But I've sworn myself to secrecy until I run it by my agent, so I'd better just be quiet for now.

Thanks for stopping by. Let me know about that excerpt.
