I'm working on the sequel to my current release SPACE FEVER and I'm learning a lot! SPACE FEVER set up two cultures -- Cortierra, a sleepy little world near the edge of the galaxy; and Zentarus, a powerhouse of a planet closer to the galactic center. The two cultures meet when Cortierra has a rich mineral strike that attracts space pirates, and Zentarus rushes to its aid.

Since most of SF takes place on Cortierra, we only learn a bit about Zentarus itself. The sequel however brings the big Z into sharp focus.

Zentarins, it seems, have a love/hate relationship with their sun. It emits near-lethal levels of radiation, which caused the humans who evolved there to adapt radically -- metallic eyes, stoic personalities, and a shortened childbearing stage. In order to reproduce at the optimal time, their infamous "fever cycle" developed, driving each adult to find the perfect lust mate at the perfect moment.

I knew about this from afar, but now that I'm seeing it up close, it's really fun. And since the hero is a Cortierran, it's doubly fun seeing it through his skeptical eyes as well as through the heroine's metallic ones.

Anyway, back to the love/hate. Zentarins believe they're anatomically and culturally superior to other humans, an attitude not quite shared by the rest of the galaxy.  So yep, fireworks ensue.

I'd better get back to it before they all kill each other! Talk to you later.
