THANKSGIVING

I love this holiday for one reason and one reason only: the food. Isn’t that sad? I love preparing the turkey, stuffing it, roasting it; mashing the potatoes; remembering the rolls. I love cranberry in all its various recipes/forms. And while I’m not the biggest pie fan in the world, I do love pie on Thanksgiving (or at least, I love providing it to others and watching them enjoy it).

How much do I enjoy making this meal? So much that I traditionally make it twice, once at my house, and then again at my parents’ house, so that we can each have lots of leftovers. I bought both turkeys yesterday, plus double everything else.

Am I forgetting to be grateful? Never. I lied when I said it was all about the food. I honestly adore this time of year – the brisk air, the impending fun, yet it’s also relaxing, our last stand before the madness of Christmas descends. We just gather (twice) and have a lovely visit. Sometimes we study the “day-after-thanksgiving” newspaper ads to see if we want to brave the madness, but mostly, we just mingle. We always have a fire; we often have unexpected company; there’s always a game on TV; we usually start a jigsaw puzzle…

It’s just nice. In fact, it doesn’t really get any better than this in my opinion.

I hope you have a lovely day too.

Kate
