You know, I wasn't particularly impressed with the first round
of Athena Force books. As a matter of fact, I wasn't going to read anymore. And then 3 of the second 6 were written by authors that I like (so I bo't them but still haven't read a single one).

Now this upcoming round. Holy Crap! EVERY SINGLE AUTHOR here is someone I'm willing to try in a continuity and someone whose own idea/book I would snatch up without even reading a back cover blurb. Except Meredith Fletcher. I've given him enough chances under that name but I'll buy all 12, so that means buying and reading his, too.

Anyway, how exciting.

Penn, sincerely hoping that whoever wrote the Bible for this round did a good job and didn't allow changes willy-nilly

Re: You know, I wasn't particularly impressed with the first round
I imagine the first series was the toughest to manage, since those authors had to create the AF universe as well as the over-arching plot.

And in some ways, it’s a no win-situation – if everyone is too controlled, you lose the creativity; if everyone gives their imaginations free rein, the continuity aspect might suffer a bit.

I don’t know about the earlier groups, but mine was given strict instructions not to change ANY continuity points, period. And I’m a good girl – not to mention, a coward – so I didn’t modify those. Instead, I concentrated my warped sense of humor/adventure/romance on non-continuity elements. Luckily, there was a lot going on in my story that was independent of the continuity plot, even though mine furthered that overarching story.

I was lucky also that mine was early in the series. I’m guessing that it gets tougher to manage info as the continuity-plot thickens.

But the first book is probably tough too – trying to set everything up.

I like being third!!

I can’t wait till you read it, Penni. I think you’ll really like it (hope, hope, hope…)

Re: You know, I wasn't particularly impressed with the first round
The first 12 were written when for several months there was no senior editor over the SBS line, so changes were made from the Bible and there were copyedit mistakes, too, that just irked me. And the authors didn't play very closely on that one, either (or so I've been told). From what I've heard (here and there), it's very different this go-round (the Bible being adhered to, authors playing together, just a better experience during the creation process). So I am looking forward to this one.

I'm glad you're looking forward to it, especially since I'll probably fly to Texas and hover as you read it, partly to see if you love it, and partly to guard the ending from peekism.

Talk to you soon!

Re: You know, I wasn't particularly impressed with the first round
LOL on the peekism. But maybe we should meet someplace more interesting than Texas -- the Sierras? the Rockies? Montreal?

I will have you know that I managed not to peek two nights ago. Of course, I had to stay up and finish the book b/c I couldn't go to bed not knowing -- and it wasn't even a mystery! It was THE PENNY TREE by Holly Kennedy and it was a really good read.

Hmm, I wonder what it was about the title that attracted you....

As for a good meeting place, you're reading my mind. I've been wanting to get out of town in a big way, just to get away from my clients for five minutes. Sheesh, what a month.

p.s. congrats on peek-resistance. I saw your note on your blog about that, and almost left a compliment, but I decided that some people might not get that I was justing kidding you about all that.
