LOVED IT, LOVED IT,  LOVED IT!! Why do I sound surprised? (1) Because so many reviews were lukewarm, even if they liked it overall. And (2) because sequels to superhero-type movies are usually not quite as good as their originals. But I can honestly say I loved this as much as the first one.

When I heard Scarlett Johansson had a role, I expected a cliche. Fans of the Marvel comic book series probably knew it would be more nuanced and fascinating than that, but I only found out yesterday! I don’t want to say anything to spoil it if you haven’t seen the film yet (and you’re ignorant like me regarding the original story). But I wanted to mention it, in case you perceived her inclusion as a step toward over-commercialization (because I don’t think it is). The other characters were great as well. Bravo to all of them!

You should go see this flick. And if you never saw the first one, you should rent it, watch it, then go see this flick.

 You’ll have fun!

p.s. I recently saw the Sherlock Holmes movie for the first time – just on DVD – and I simply couldn’t stand Robert Downey Jr or Jude Law in it. This was one reason I almost didn’t go to IRON MAN 2. And it shows what a great actor Downey is, because as much as I disliked his performance in SH, I loved him in this, so his appeal goes well beyond cult. Also, I imagine it’s evidence that he needs a strong director, because when left unchecked – or worse, when his director is undisciplined as well – he veers off course. Just in my opinion, of course. (I have the same problem with Brad Pitt and Al Pacino. They soar under good direction. Without it? Not so much. And do not get me going on comic geniuses like Will Farrell who often squander their talent. Of course, they still make a ton of money, but what a waste. Oh well… I actually came here to praise, not to rant, so I’ll stop now!)

Just go see the movie! You won't regret it.
