Aye, Robot

Voltron....Transformers....Cylons.... even R2-D2 (remind me why we're spelling it Artoo-Deetoo these days?)

I'm crazy about robots, especially the fighting kind, and most especially the kind operated by pilots. I'll pretty much read, write, and-sometimes-try-to-play anything with a robot or mech in it.

As I write this, I have two images inspiring me: my two-foot tall replica of Voltron (lions assembled, of course) standing on top of my filing cabinet; and my new book cover for MECH GIRL, my first Young Adult story:

Now that I've given myself permission to blab about it (because today is the release date!) you'll be hearing a lot more about fighting mechs. If you follow Robotech, Battletech, Voltron, et cetera, you know they're populated with super-hot, super-hunky hero-pilots who save the day, titanium style. Occasionally there's a female pilot, who is often either (1) wants to be just like the guys, or (2) is silly/frilly but eventually proves she's just like the guys.

So I wondered what it would be like if a regular girl -- of the wisecracking, non-violent variety -- became embroiled in a mech war; learned quickly in hopes of never needing to use the piloting skills; and eventually had to save the world, hopefully without breaking a nail or ruining her party-girl image. That's how MECH GIRL came about.

I hope you love the story!

3 things:

1. I only saw somebody spell Artoo Deetoo out for the first time very recently. I thought the person doing so was a moron and didn't know any better. If it's a Thing we're doing now...then we're all morons. :p

2. That is an awesome cover.

3. That is an AWESOME BOOK I MUST BUY AND READ IT NOW as soon as i'm done writing this $)%(*#& book due in 14 days

where is robot chicken when we need them?
I've seen it spelled that way several times, and it has me worried about the whole intelligence thing. I think we need to hold the line on this one!

And thanks for saying good things about the new cover. Let's hope you enjoy what's inside. Let me know! And good luck with the 14-day marathon.

and p.s. I don't know why this is showing up as anonymous. Good grief, I already had to figure out how to upload that cover from some bizarrely formatted pseudo-jpeg. Now this? I will try to remedy!
