Sean’s book in the PLAY MAKERS series is finally in production, meaning it’s scheduled for copyediting, cover design and sprucing up the back-cover blurb. We’re still on track for a pre-Super Bowl release!

If you’ve enjoyed Sean Decker (the kicker) in previous books, you might just love him in this one. He’s been through so much, romance-wise, he finally understands you can’t rush it. Better to be alone than to be with the wrong person, right? That philosophy is put to the test when he meets Tess Colby, since he’s sure she’s the one (isn’t he always sure?) but luckily, Tess won’t be his “rebound” date despite his smokin’ green eyes.

We see lots of Johnny in this book (and on a whole new level). And you can’t have a Triple Threat book without Bam Bannerman, so of course he’s there too. His loyalty to Sean is so basic, so touching, they’re more like brothers, even though Bam harasses the poor kicker every chance he gets.

Sean has been my all-time favorite since he stepped onto the page in PLAYING FOR KEEPS, so hopefully I’ve done him justice.

I’ll let you know when it’s out. Thanks for your support of this series, it means so much. And wait till you see the cover!

I'm excited that POWER PLAY is now available everywhere! I hope you enjoy it. As mentioned earlier, Sophie and Jake have their wedding in the epilogue with all the gang in attendance, but really, this book is the Darcie and Wyatt show. Their banter is unusual for this series because it's Wyatt who puts up roadblocks to the relationship whereas in the first three books, it was the woman trying to resist. Wyatt definitely has his reasons given his history with women, but it's a completely different dynamic that I really enjoyed, mostly thanks to Darcie because it was so much fun pretending to be confident and sassy like her.

So in other minor PLAY MAKERS news, we've made the first book in the series -- a short novella called PLAY BY PLAY -- free for a few weeks in hopes of attracting new readers for the series. Also, I just found out that my publisher doesn't use NetGalley any more, so if that was something that worked for you, I just wanted you to know I feel bad about that.

Finally, I'm four chapters into Sean Decker's book and since you all know how I feel about him, it's pretty awesome spending all day alone in a room with him. Although of course, his latest crush is there too and trust me, she's perfect for him.  Too bad her refrain is -- I don't date guys who get involved with married twins. She also thinks it's crazy how he falls in love so easily. And of course, she right about all of that. Still, Sean has his work cut out for him trying to romance Tess.

I usually have my title picked out for a book before I start formally writing it, but for Sean's, I have three possible candidates. When I was writing PLAYING FOR KEEPS, the idea was to call Sean's PLAYING FOR KICKS (since he's a kicker, right?)  But I eliminated that along the way in favor of three others. But for some reason, it drives me crazy writing a book with no name, so hopefully the right one will jump to the fore soon.

Meanwhile, let's take another look at that cover!  I hope you've been enjoying POWER PLAY. Thanks for reading! Kate

Almost a year after he met her, Jake is marrying his Elevator Girl.  When and where?  It all takes place in the Epilogue to the next PLAY MAKERS book: POWER PLAY (the Surgeon's book).

I adore Jake Dublin. He was originally the inspiration for a short story about sports bloggers, because I think they're the best and most hilarious writers around. It was just a series of blog posts at the time, written by Jake himself about his crush on Elevator Girl (the "cute girl" he met in his building). Those posts turned into a novella entitled PLAY BY PLAY, and the novella spawned a series of full-length sports books. Along the line we met a good-looking quarterback named Wyatt Bourne -- also known as The Surgeon.

Legend has it Wyatt's nickname began with his precise, surgical passing but quickly became shorthand for his surgeon-like God complex. In other words, he's ever-so-slightly arrogant.

Women "love" Wyatt Bourne, but who could actually love him? I guess we'll find out in POWER PLAY. Here's a sneak peek at the cover. I'll tell you more on opening day!

The second book in my romantic suspense series is now available. Yay! No need to read them in order (in my opinion), since the plot of the first book was easily captured in background in RANDOM ELEMENTS. Basically, an actress named Nikki who plays an FBI agent in a hit TV series helps the actual FBI out on a case, to the annoyance of the lead agent Josh Saxon. They butt heads, learn to work together, save lives and fall in love. At the end of the first book, Nikki's show is cancelled and she decides to join the real FBI.

Now in RANDOM ELEMENTS it's only a few weeks later and the show is un-cancelled. The FBI agrees that Nikki can pospone her training, so she decides to do six more episodes. Josh thinks her director -- who is in love with her -- is just jerking her around (and him with her!) but still, he's in love and decides to take an undercover assignment for a few weeks to stay out of her hair, unaware that a stalker has taken an interest in her. Josh's assignment is dangerous, but it turns out Nikki's in even more danger.

I hope you enjoy the new story. Here's the cool cover. We also re-did the cover to TRACE to be consistent, and I just love them both!

new episode for TRACE ELEMENTS TV show

When my romantic supsense book TRACE ELEMENTS was released, I included the "pilot episode" for the main character's TV show as bonus material at the back of the book. Why? Because Nikki Gower, an actress who plays a kick ass FBI agent in the series, also helps solve a real case with the FBI in the book, and for inspiration, she draws on her TV character's personality and experience. Believe me, this annoys the real FBI agent -- Josh Saxon, soon to be her love interest -- to no end. As a result we hear all about the TV show, where fake agent Annika Trace and reclusive scientist Cole Ember solve outlandish crimes.

Now that book two -- RANDOM ELEMENTS -- is about to be released, we've posted another episode on the publisher's website along with the pilot episode. So if you'd like a complimentary taste of the TV show, please check it out. In this particular episode, Annika Trace is bitten by a deadly spider and Cole races for the cure. It's an important turning point for them and is aptly titled "Episode Seven: First Kiss?"

I hope you enjoy it. And wait until you see the cover for RANDOM ELEMENTS in a few weeks. Here's the link for the free episodes: http://www.beyondthepagepub.com/trace-elements-episodes.html

Here's the story in a nutshell, I hope you enjoy the book!

Gracie is fully supportive of her friends’ series of how-to videos to preserve “lost arts”—until they ask her to star in The Lost Art of Tying a Bow Tie. It’s not that she can’t tie one, it’s the man on the receiving end of her skilled fingers.

Mitch McKenna’s rugged, shirtless demonstrations of his prodigious survival skills have set the Internet on fire. He and city-girl Gracie have often clashed over his domineering, he-man ways. But when he shows up clean shaven and dressed in a tux, he takes her breath away.

Though their scorching-hot chemistry lights up the set—and the glorious nights that follow at his wilderness hideaway—Mitch is alarmed by the sheer number of online perverts who respond to Gracie’s beauty.

She balks as his protective instincts take over, and their quarrel sends her running back to the city. Mitch now faces a grim decision: protect her the only way he knows how, and lose her love. Or do it her way, and risk losing her forever.

PLAY DATE on sale now!!

Play Date high res

From the time Bam Bannerman and Sean Decker ambled into my book PLAYING FOR KEEPS, I knew they had to have their own stories. And many readers made that request as well. Little did we know, those guys are so competitive, they both wanted this next book. You'll see that they don't share well. Which basically makes Rachel (the schoolteacher from PLAYING FOR KEEPS) the luckiest female on earth. I hope you enjoy the story.

We lowered the price of PLAYING FOR KEEPS to 99 cents, so if you'd like to read that one too, this is a great chance for a limited time.

p.s. Thanks to Rita Henuber for designing the book banner for this bundle. Talk about talented! Her book is called POINT OF NO RETURN. Chills, right?

Coming Soon!

Remember the school teacher from PLAYING FOR KEEPS? Remember Bam Bannerman? Remember Sean Decker? They needed their own book, right? And it's on its way. So if you've been wondering where I've been, I've been with Deck and Bam and it's been fun! I'll post again when PLAY DATE hits the online bookstores.

Here we go again! And just in time for the Super Bowl. I’ve been traveling a lot, writing a lot, and working the day/law job a lot, hence my absence from this blog. But it’s all been worth it because Johnny Spurling, my favorite quarterback, is ready to break hearts and take names.

Hmmm… that doesn’t sound quite right.  But you see what I’m saying. He’s my latest hero, and starting tomorrow, he’s everyone’s hunk.

You probably know I’m a Forty-Niners fan. And the Niners didn’t make quite make it to the Super Bowl this year. (We were robbed, I tell you!). But I still have hopes for a ring, thanks to Johnny Spurling. So check out PLAYING FOR KEEPS. And thanks to all of you who read the first story in the series!

Available everywhere tomorrow. Thanks for checking it out.

p.s. I’ve been lax with the movie reviews, but I loved American Hustle. And this week we saw Jack Ryan (Shadow Recruit). My verdict? It’s so great! Pine and Costner, together again for the first time – yum. And seriously, it’s everything it hoped to be. What more can we ask? Go see it if you like light action with hilarious dialogue and spy stuff. You won’t be sorry.
